There are no experts, only our dependance for those with the fortitude and courage to take on responsibilty. If I am an expert then it's of nothing more than trial and error. | Today I got an email from an old high school friend. He's a Church Music Director in Los Angeles, Ca. Oddly enough I don't believe I've heard from him in about 6 years, but we were recently notified of a former teammate’s death. We played football together at Spring Woods High School in Houston. He was a year older than I but I remembered him well. Quiet and to himself it seemed but still very much a part of the huddle. He was a Marine killed in the line of fire while patrolling a security detail in Iraq. This comes shortly after attending the funeral of my cousin's spouse. At which I was reacquainted with several other cousins of whom I had not seen in one case, almost eighteen years! The irony here is how a death can bring together people who otherwise probably wouldn’t make the attempt on their own. It’s saddening really to think that the people you spent the early parts of your life with are now too busy to maintain, what I believe is our most prized possession if were are possessors of anything at all. That one thing is family. Almost like a pair of old genes you can’t seem to get rid of because they fit so well but don’t seem to go with anything else in your wardrobe. So there they sit in the back of your closet just as the majority of your family exists. As we move into this New Year keep that in mind, I know I will. My New Year’s resolution list is long, but it wouldn’t be complete if I didn’t continue the attempt to get closer to those who by far are dearest. | | |
| Outlook on the "War on Terror" - No matter your political beliefs or interests these men are there because they are doing what they want and believe in what they are doing. I’ve been there, it’s not about politics or right and wrong. To them, it’s about the moment and what they are tasked to do. The people they are doing it for may not be the ones they see, but the ones the think of in the worst of times to find a piece and normalcy. The only thing that should matter is the fact these men are our loved ones and we support them. Keep that in mind when protesting the processes we see on the screen. Our freedoms are defined by the very thing these men are doing. That very thing is freedom of choice. They choose to do what they feel is right which may not even mirror the political view of an event, but if only to accomplish the very thing they set out to do within the challenges they set upon themselves – An American Past Time!. Support them in their life’s task, whatever that may be. They do these things for you. Your comments are welcome... | | |
| ....I was incorrect in stating the quentessintial meaning of the holidays. The meaning would rather depend in which light you see the holiday spirt. It could mean everything I stated, or rather maybe just our blessing of the birth of our savior. To emphasize only the family and worldly aspect of this time of year is almost selfish it seems. Inword there should be a sense of peace and assureance as we have been saved from our own inevitable self distruction. Then again, how do we provide the sense of mind to our children of such things than to begin with the love and magic that is the holiday?
